Chinese vineyard aims for global recognition

At the recent 2025 World Brand Moganshan Conference organized by Xinhua, the regional wine brand of Yantai has emerged as a focal point of attention.
During the event, the “Xinhua·China (Yantai) Wine Industry Development Index”, a model evaluating the Yantai wine industry, was unveiled for the first time. This model aims to uncover the answers that lead to the high-quality development of the Chinese wine industry.
Li Huimin, head of the Xihua Indices Institute, explained that the model focuses on industrial strength while also considering brand reputation, international influence, regional characteristics, technological innovation, and industrial integration. The goal is to provide multidimensional insights for the wine industry through Yantai’s demonstrative role.
In 1892, Zhang Bishi, a national industrialist, founded China’s first wine company, Changyu, marking the beginning of China’s wine industry.
Yantai was honored with the title of International Grape and Wine City in 1987 by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), making it the only city in Asia to receive this recognition.
Today, the wine industry chain in Yantai, one of the city’s 16 key industry chains, is well-established. The city boasts over 250 supporting enterprises in the wine industry chain, with a comprehensive output value exceeding 50 billion yuan ($7.93 billion). Its products cover sectors such as packaging printing, oak barrel manufacturing, winemaking equipment, cultural tourism, education, and training.
The “Xinhua·China (Yantai) Wine Industry Development Index” evaluation model will be officially released at the 2025 Global Wine Tourism Conference in July this year. This initiative will support Yantai’s regional wine brand in ushering in a new era of “digital governance”, setting a global example for the integration of wine production and urban development.
